Five years is a long time in the world of apps!

We have worked hard over the past 5+ years to strike the right balance among ease of use, broad applicability, and elegant design. Generally speaking, these three elements have an enormous influence over the longevity, popularity, and usefulness of an app. We use our own tool every day and we always listen to our users. We care about design. We care about aesthetics, and above all, we care about creativity.
We wanted to make an app that does not have limits — an app that does not necessarily lead you by the hand or tell you exactly what to do. We know that all human beings (YOU!) are inherently creative!
Along the way, we have grown as an organization, we have improved our skills, and we have gained a lot of experience. The Explain Everything team today consists of nearly 50 individuals divided between our two offices in Wroclaw (Poland) and New York City respectively.
Beyond an Interactive Whiteboard
We have a rather “industrial” process of updating our apps every 6 to 8 weeks, bringing new features and bug fixes. Explain Everything iterates and evolves quickly, and our roadmap adapts to follow what is requested and required by our users.
We started in 2011 with just an iOS app. After 4 months we had 10,000 users. Today, we have over 3 million users of the original app (now called Explain Everything Classic). The new collaborative version (Explain Everything) has had just under 1,000,000 downloads since January 2016. And we also still have our Android, Chromebook, and Windows versions.
We now also have Explain Everything Discover – a convenient portal for uploading, sharing, and getting inspired by projects.
We built the new collaborative Explain Everything for iOS from the ground up in order to enable collaboration as well as many other features that we simply could not just add on to the Classic version. Real-time collaboration brings all kinds of new ways the app can be used.
We made the new app available with two separate purchasing models because we know there are many kinds of individuals and institutions with many different constraints and procedures for acquiring new tools. We have a modestly priced EDU subscription and a one-time purchase option (Explain Everything VPP). Both were designed to be convenient for purchasers!
What the Future Holds
We look forward to seeing your creations! The last 5 years have been truly amazing as we have seen great content being created, knowledge being exchanged, and ideas explained. We believe that all of our new features and offerings will continue to enable students, teachers, leaders, and learners to shatter the barriers of personal expression… just as the sound barrier was shattered by technology a while ago.
The most rewarding feelings for us come when we hear about our app bringing unquantifiable benefit, joy, and satisfaction to our users. The feedback we receive via reviews, tweets, email and support tickets means a lot!
