The Chrome Web Store version of Explain Everything is moving

Support for the Chrome Web Store version of Explain Everything will soon be discontinued. But don’t worry, there are two easy ways for you to keep using Explain Everything on your Chromebook. Read more to learn why we’re doing this and what you can do.

Reasons behind the discontinuation

In Google’s ecosystem Explain Everything was originally built as an Android app. With the introduction of Chromebooks and Chrome OS, Google created technologies that helped developers move their products across the two systems. However these came with limitations.

Explain Everything has evolved immensely since those migration tools were created. Our platform introduced its own cloud storage, real-time collaboration with voice-chat, and web videos among many other new features. The technology required for these unfortunately were not available on the native Chrome OS system.

The technical limitations of the platform made it impossible for us to maintain the quality we expect. This is the reason we will no longer provide support for the native Chrome OS app.

Option one (best): Get Explain Everything from Google Play

Fortunately, to tackle the platform limitations, Google has allowed Android apps to be run on Chromebooks. This means that Explain Everything is available on Chrome OS as an app that you can get from Google Play. In order to do that enable Google Play Store on your Chromebook. Then simply download Explain Everything from the Google Play Store.

Option two (also good): Use Explain Everything in your Chrome browser

If the Google Play store option isn’t available for your Chromebook model or enabled for your organization, go to whiteboard.explaineverything.com and sign in to use the web version of Explain Everything.
